Cystitis risk factors

The problem with the cystitis risk factors is that they are so diverse, that everyone should suffer from one type of cystitis at some point in their lives. Well, the sad truth is that the cystitis risk factors are right: about ninety percent of the worlds' population has suffered or will suffer from cystitis. Some might ask what cystitis risk factors really are. The answer is pretty simple: they indicate who and when is liable of having cystitis.

The first thing that these factors tell us is that women are much more affected by cystitis then men. Which sounds a bit sexist, but it is logical: the female urinary tract is much larger in diameter then the male one and bacteria can penetrate it so much easier. However, male cystitis is a whole lot more dangerous then female cystitis. The reason is similar: because of the small diameter of the male urinary tract, the bacteria that enter cause a lot more damage then in the case of the female urinary tract.

Also, another risk factor is pregnancy: when a woman is pregnant, her immune system is working overtime. Unfortunately, so are her hormones. Those hormones are to blame for the enlargement of the body cavities, including the urethra. The larger the diameter of the urethra, the easier it is for bacteria to go through it and find a perfect spot to develop.
