        To combat cystitis, scientists have found some alternative remedies to avoid recurrence. Acupuncture, for example, give very good results. The most surprising is that this study shows that bilberry juice and cranberries are effective against cystitis, because the tannins in these berries which prevent the seeds to adhere to the mucous membranes and they are more easily evacuated. Cystitis complications

        The most serious complications of cystitis is pyelonephritis: the bladder, the upper urinary tract, the ureters and kidneys, are invaded by bacteria. This is rare but potentially very serious. The signs have to do with the existence of fever or pain.         Since much is known about the germ, the bacteriological examination of urine is usually unnecessary during a first episode of cystitis. However, if cystitis reappears a few days after the end of treatment, or relaps if a new urinary tract infection is present, then ECBU (cyto-bacteriological examination of urine) is essential. The susceptibility testing of microbe sensitivity to different drugs presents the results two to three days after examination.
