Cystitis eye infection

When someone hears about cystitis, the last thing that comes to mind is a connection to some sort of eye problem. Well, the truth is much different and somewhat surprising. There are patients out there that have been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis eye infection. How is that possible? See, when a patient presents with two very different infections, one related to the urinary tract and one that is located at the eye level, a physician might be tempted to consider them completely unrelated. In most cases, they have absolutely no connection. However, if that patient does suffer from interstitial cystitis eye infection, a misdiagnosis could pose a serious threat to their general health.

What does it all mean? Interstitial cystitis eye infection points to only one larger condition: Sjogren's syndrome. This syndrome is an autoimmune disease, considered to be one of the most unusual autoimmune problems in the world. Unfortunately, the fact that it is rare and usually misdiagnosed makes it very difficult to treat. Also, the fact that both the eye infection and the infectious cystitis are very treatable is a real issue. If those two disappear or are ignored one in favor of the other, Sjogren's syndrome will develop without any treatment and could lead to the patient's early demise.
