Cystitis epidemiology

        Cystitis epidemiology is an area of research that has developed by leaps and bounds in recent years. The first question that comes to mind is what is cystitis epidemiology. Well, the answer is pretty straightforward: cystitis epidemiology is the science that studies the mechanisms of spreading and transmitting cystitis, as well as the categories of people that are more likely to develop cystitis. Thus, this type of field works with statistics.

       For example, cystitis is more common in women then in men, though it is more serious of a condition when men have it. Why? Well, because the male urinary tract is much thinner, allowing the bacteria to penetrate the tissues much easier. Also, men who have been diagnosed with cystitis suffer from more pain then women due to the same reason, the thinness of the urethra. In this case, when the urine flow passes through the urethra, it triggers more pain receptors then in the case of women.

        Another thing that cystitis epidemiology has made known is that pregnant women are much more likely to be diagnosed with cystitis then any other women. That might seem a bit weird, since it is well known that pregnant women have a much better immune system then the rest of us, but, in this case, the cystitis is not infectious. Well, it is caused by bacteria, but the process through which bacteria enter the body is not an infectious one. What does that mean exactly? When a woman is pregnant, everything in her body starts to widen. The urinary tract is no exception. A larger urinary tract means more room for the bacteria to pass through and to attach themselves to a perfect spot.
